STEP 01
Say who they are
“A tiefling rogue in a rain-soaked coat, counting coins under a tavern lamp.” Class, race and mood in one line.
Describe your D&D hero — race, class, the scar, the armour — and get a painted character portrait or VTT token. No sheet to fill in first, and free credits when you sign up.

Four steps from one sentence to a finished character portrait.
STEP 01
“A tiefling rogue in a rain-soaked coat, counting coins under a tavern lamp.” Class, race and mood in one line.
STEP 02
Change the build, the armour or the expression and generate again. Each portrait costs 1 credit.
STEP 03
Pick the portrait you actually recognise and hit Continue Editing to change the scene or the armour — starting from that portrait, not from scratch.
STEP 04
Download the portrait, or generate it square and remove the background for a VTT token.
Most DnD character creators make you pick a species, spend 27 points and choose a background before you see any art. This one starts with the face the table actually looks at — the stats stay in your rules book, D&D Beyond or VTT.
Four kinds of detail do most of the work in a D&D character prompt:
tiefling, goliath, half-elf
the cleric's shield, the wizard's sleeves, the ranger's cloak
chipped, gilded, salt-stained
a scar, a missing finger, a holy symbol worn backwards
Leave out: “8K”, “masterpiece” and camera terms — they change nothing about the character.
Already have the character? Paste the backstory, start from a name like Kaelen Voss, disgraced duellist, or upload a sketch or a mini photo to keep the silhouette while the rendering changes.
Add one style phrase to the end of your prompt. The character stays the same; the look changes.
painted illustration, dramatic lighting
The classic rulebook look for portraits and handouts.
ink and watercolor sketch, parchment background
An old adventure-module page; prints well in black and white.
anime style character art, clean line work
Bright, readable faces for a hero who looks like the lead.
realistic fantasy portrait, cinematic lighting
Film-still detail for villains the table should fear.
head and shoulders, centered, plain background
Generate square, then remove the background for a VTT token.
16-bit pixel art character sprite
Retro sprites for lighter one-shots.
Found the one that looks right? Hit Continue Editing on that portrait and describe one change at a time — new armour, a fresh scar, a different scene. Small changes keep the face closest to the original; for a whole new pose, start again from the same prompt.
Keep the default 1:1 square and ask for a head-and-shoulders portrait — a VTT token and a D&D Beyond avatar in one image. Run Remove Background on the result for a transparent PNG.
For a full figure, pick 2:3 or 3:4 before you generate.
The same tool paints NPCs and monsters — the tavern keeper, the rival, the thing in the dark — and the AI DnD map generator draws the battle map they fight on.
One character for each of the 13 D&D 5e classes, plus an NPC and a monster — each with the sentence that makes them. Click any one to load its prompt and start from there.
Yes — describe the character in one sentence and the generator produces a portrait you can use at the table. You still make the mechanical choices; the AI paints the result.
The one that matches what you need: a builder if you want rules-accurate stats and a PDF sheet, an art generator if what you need is the face. This tool is the second kind — and it is free to start.
Yes — this one is free to start. New accounts get free credits (a signup bonus plus daily check-in rewards), and each portrait costs 1 credit, so your first characters cost nothing and no credit card is needed.
One tap — sign in with Google when you hit Generate. No credit card, and your free credits and characters stay on that account.
Yes. Paste the backstory and the generator works from the concept — the same way you would describe them to a new player.
Yes. The same generator paints tavern keepers, rivals, villains and the monster behind the door.
Ask for a head-and-shoulders portrait on a plain background and keep the 1:1 square size. When it is done, use Remove Background on the result for a transparent PNG, then drop it into Roll20, Foundry VTT or Owlbear Rodeo as a token.
Yes. The generator paints whatever you describe, so it works for Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Starfinder, OSR games and homebrew settings as well as D&D 5e.
Portraits made on the free plan appear in the public gallery along with their prompts, so keep unrevealed plot twists out of free-plan backstories. Paid plans can switch an image to private and hide its prompt.
Personal use at your own table is free. Commercial use — published adventures, DMs Guild titles, Patreon content — needs a paid plan; portraits generated on a paid subscription include a commercial license.
Heroes, NPCs and monsters — the AI DnD character creator is free to start.
